A 4K camera that's ahead of its time
Looking for a camcorder that will keep you happy for years to come? Canon aims to deliver just that with the XF705 — their first camcorder to feature the extremely efficient H.265/HEVC codec. With a compression ratio of about 2x that of the H.264/AVC standard, you'll get smaller file sizes without any loss in image quality.
Dual SD memory card slots allow relay or dual recording, so you can either keep recording when the first card is full or — for once-in-a-lifetime events — you can create an instant backup by recording to both cards simultaneously.
Rich color and detail
The XF705's 1-inch 4K UHD CMOS sensor and dual DIGIC DV 6 image processors provide high sensitivity and low noise performance. And its Wide Dynamic Range Gamma of 800% produces nearly seamless tone gradations for accurate color without overexposing the high-brightness areas. The camera also supports Hybrid Log Gamma (HLG) and Perceptual Quantization (PQ) HDR formats, providing a much greater range from black to pure white.
Want to shoot HDR and SDR at the same time? Not a problem. You can record HDR internally to the SD card while sending an SDR signal out to an external recorder. The camera's helpful SDR gain adjustment allows you to fine-tune exposure levels so that the SDR signal isn't over- or under-exposed compared to the HDR. You can also choose to shoot in Canon Log 3 for post-production flexibility.
And if you want to be able to shoot at wider apertures without blowing out the shot, you'll appreciate the built-in circular neutral density filter. You can choose from three densities: 1/4, 1/16, or 1/64. It can also be turned off.
Handy connections
The XF705 has both wired and wireless network connectivity options for FTP transfer or browser remote operation. And the 12G-SDI, Genlock, and SMPTE time-code terminals make this camera a snap to integrate into a switched, multi-camera environment.
It also has dual XLR inputs with individual volume controls for connecting pro-quality microphones. An included microphone holder helps you capture clear sound, even when you don't have a hand free.
